History of the "Litas" company
The Litas bus station in Požarevac has a rich history that goes back almost eight decades, following the development of local and intercity transport in the Braničevo district.
Beginnings and development (1945–1970)
In 1945, the "Traffic Center" was founded in Požarevac, whose fleet consisted of several war trophy trucks. The first lines connected Požarevac with Veliko Gradište, Golubac, Žabari, Svilajnac, and Petrovac na Mlava. After the establishment of "Lasta" in 1946, the company operated as its plant until 1961, when it was renamed "Moravatrans". In 1962, the company "REMONT Požarevac" was formed, expanding the fleet and the number of lines.
The origin of the name LITAS and the golden age (1971–1989)
On January 1, 1971, the company received the name LITAS (Linear and tourist bus traffic), proposed by a student, Draško Isaković from Požarevac. In the 1980s, Litas had around 200 vehicles and carried more than 20 million passengers a year, including international routes to Europe, Asia, and Africa. It was the exclusive carrier of Yugoslav athletes and participated in the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics.
Privatization and ownership changes (2006–2024)
In 2006, Litas was privatized and became part of the multinational company Veolia Transport, and later operated under the name Arriva Litas. In March 2018, the construction of a new business building in Požarevac, worth 2 million euros, was started, which included a technical inspection, service and premises for employees.
After that, the company operated under the name MobiLitas, until October 2024, when the fire company Saniva 012 took over 100% of the capital and announced the return of the name Litas.
Return of the Litas brand (2025)
As of January 1, 2025, the company is again operating under the name Litas, with a fleet of 150 buses and around 300 employees. It is planned to modernize the fleet with new buses produced in 2022, as well as expand the tourist offer, including destinations such as Greece, Turkey and Spain. Also, the plan is to digitize services through a mobile application and establish a vehicle rental company.
Today, Litas continues to be a key carrier in the Braničevo district, with an emphasis on quality service, cooperation with local communities and business modernization.
